Editorial Standards & Approach.

How Balston Compendium selects, reviews, sources, and publishes articles on daily habits, movement practices, and coaching perspectives on gradual weight management.

Balston Compendium operates under the following editorial principles: articles on weight management habits are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.

The Review Process
01

Article Proposal

Each article begins with a written proposal from the contributing writer. The proposal identifies the subject, the angle of inquiry, the primary sources to be engaged, and the specific aspect of weight management habits or coaching practice to be addressed. The founding editor reviews the proposal for alignment with the publication's editorial scope and independence standards.

02

Source Verification

Content published by Balston Compendium is selected based on published behavioural and nutritional research, and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication. Where articles draw on peer-reviewed literature, sources are named. Where they draw on coaching practice observation, the observation is identified as such. The publication does not conflate independent editorial observation with established research findings.

03

Second Editor Review

Before publication, every article is reviewed by a second editor who has not been involved in its drafting. The review assesses factual accuracy, appropriate sourcing, editorial tone, and adherence to the publication's stop-word and scope standards. Articles that do not pass this review are returned to the writer for revision before any further consideration.

04

Publication and Dating

Published articles carry a publication date and the writer's name. The editorial team does not use anonymous bylines. The publication date reflects the date of final editorial approval, not first draft completion. Articles reviewed and published in the current series carry dates in the 2026 editorial calendar.

05

Corrections

When errors of fact are identified in published articles — whether by readers, contributors, or the editorial team — they are corrected publicly. A correction note is appended to the relevant article, identifying what was changed and when. The publication does not remove errors silently. Substantive corrections are treated as editorial matters of record.

Scope and Independence

What This Publication Covers

Balston Compendium covers the subject of daily habit formation as it relates to gradual weight management. This includes movement practices, nutrition awareness, sleep patterns, stress and eating behaviour, mindset observations from coaching practice, and the longer arc of lifestyle changes associated with sustainable weight awareness.

The publication focuses on evidence-informed perspectives drawn from published behavioural research and coaching practice literature. It does not cover acute weight loss interventions, structured calorie-control programmes, or any context that would require professional qualification to appropriately advise on.

Independence Standards

Balston Compendium is an independent editorial publication. It is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body. No article is commissioned in exchange for commercial consideration. Writers who have commercial relationships with brands or programmes that could influence their editorial perspective are required to disclose those relationships.

The publication does not accept sponsored content in the editorial format. Where advertising or promotional content appears — if at all — it is clearly distinguished from editorial content and does not influence the editorial review process.
